A permit was granted by the Borough Council to R. A. Bent on 9 July 1926 for the construction of a residence on Town Sections 485/6, Standish Hill - Boon Bros were the builders, and the estimated construction cost was £1450.

At the rear of a photograph showing the intersection of Standish Street & Frankley Road taken by Swainson's Studios in c1926-27, 8 Standish Street can be seen under construction, with the boxing in place for the pouring of the foundations (Collection of Puke Ariki SW1923-1930.02912)

An earlier permit was granted by the Borough Council to H. J. Grayson on 19 August 1925 for the construction of a residence on Town Section 485, Downe Street - George Beamish was the builder, and the estimated construction cost was £1050. - however this house doesn't appear to have been constructed as it would probably have stood on the site of the present house.

An even earlier permit for a residence for H. S. Brookman on Part Town Section 487, Standish Street, was deposited with the Borough Council in June 1920 - however this house doesn't appear to have been constructed as it would probably have stood on the site of the present house.
